The Al's Straps Story

G'day I'm Al, I was born and raised on Mantuan Downs, a cattle station between Springsure and Tambo in Central Queensland, where Mum and Dad managed the property for 24 years. Growing up, my sister and I were taught through distance education by Mum until Year 8, and most of my best memories involve chasing cattle through the brigalow and learning the value of hard work and being handy with what you've got.

On rainy days, Dad and I would spend hours in the leather room repairing gear and making whatever was needed. Dad was a true jack of all trades, teaching me everything from cutting a fresh set of reins to using spent .22 shells as homemade rivets. Out here, being resourceful wasn't a choice, it was simply part of life.

Al's Straps officially started in Mount Isa in 2021, on a little table with a solid block of lead for punching holes. The original idea was simple: make bull straps in bright colours so people could finally tell theirs apart. Before long, it grew into much more. I wanted to create stronger, brighter, hard-wearing products that could stand up to real rural life.

What began as an afternoon hobby has grown into a small family business that my wife, Shani, and I now juggle alongside work and station life. Every product we make is built with the same values I grew up with: quality, practicality, and a genuine love for the people and lifestyle we serve.
